Tom Waits, Ireland - At Last!

Tom Waits

After I bought my Leonard Cohen tickets I said to my friend 'I wonder how long now before Tom Waits plays here...' and lo and behold...

Tom Waits is confirmed to play Dublin this summer. Incredible. How many years have we been waiting for this?

He is going to play in a custom built tent in Phoenix park, despite allegedly having been offered much more money to play open air. According to Hot Press he wanted to play in a tent after hearing positive reports from friends who had played the Marquee in Cork.

So you can all thank us folk in the Real Capital for the more intimate surroundings you will get to hear this legend in :)

They haven't announced when tickets will go on sale yet, or how much they will be, but it doesn't really matter - I am there.

Can't believe Tom will be playing here in July. I named my first born after him !!!

On http://www. Need A Ticket .ie they are already selling tickets for this gig for 165 euros! Anyone know of this site or how they (claim to) get tickets before anyone else?

From the looks of things they are touts and therefore I doubt they have tickets for this gig yet. Any self respecting Waits fan shouldn't tout their ticket through them

Hmmm. I wonder if they even have tickets... maybe they're preselling on the basis they know they will get some?

  3. paul o neill Says:

check to see how they are selling his tickets in america

  4. paul o neill Says:

you buy them by cc then you bring cc to concert no paper tickets

  5. Frank (author) Says:

Interesting. How do you buy someone a present of tickets then though? You have to give them your credit card for the night too?? :D

  6. sean smith Says:

Jesus i just bought tickets on needaticket.ie. Have I been stung?

  7. Frank (author) Says:

Hi Sean, I did a quick Google search for needaticket.ie and it sounds like you will probably get your ticket alright.

I hadn't heard of them before so I wasn't sure but people seem to have used them and got tickets, and the site seems to be reasonably well known and the owner has been in the media defennding his practice.

Do let us know if it turns out to be a problem though!

  8. sean smith Says:

Thanks Frank. Did some research meself and it all seems to be above board. Probably should have done that before I parted with money but the excitement of The Man coming to Dublin got the better of me. Will be worth every penny if it secures tickets for me

hey folks be carefull about buying tickets as in the states you can only buy online and have to get your card swiped at the gig to gain entrance, and also produce goverenment issued i.d.so i reckon the same will apply here this is what tom waits and his management insisted on, so where does that leave "need a ticket"selling something that they dont have?

  10. Dan Fitz Says:

I booked a ticket via needaticket too but I noticed today that they've removed the tickets from the site.
I've tried to contact them by phone and email over the last week (problem with my transaction, won't bore you with the details) but I've had no response as yet and the phone number goes to answerphone every time. Like you I got a little carried away (booked a flight from London and everything!) and bought a ticket!
Anyone know anything or booked tickets from them?

  11. Deb Says:

When are the tickets going on sale, I'd heard Tuesday next

  12. Deb Says:

Ah, found it , next Tuesday it is - might just lose some sleep over this one....

  13. Frank (author) Says:

hey guys, those of you who bought tickets on needaticket... have you been contacted? I notice Dan says they took the tickets down, and the Ticketmaster T&C's are really clamping down on scalpers - you have to present the passport or driver's license of the purchaser to get into the gig...

Which makes it very hard for needaticket to sell on tickets I would imagine - purchasers name will be printed on both tickets..

If you have not been contacted by needaticket I would contact them, and read the fine print on their site and any communication you have had from them,

please come back and let us know how you get on!

  14. sean smith Says:

Got a call from needaticket yesterday. They can't do the tickets cause each ticket has to have a name printed on it and i.d produced at the door. They were very apologetic and gave a full refund. Very professional.

  15. Dan Fitz Says:

I had a call from Needaticket on Tuesday and they explained to me exactly what Sean says above. Fair play to them, they contacted me, told me how to go about getting tickets and the money is back in my account today. Much relieved!

  16. Frank (author) Says:

Thanks a million for letting us know guys, it at least answers some questions about how 'above board' needaticket are... highly frustrating for yourselves I'd imagine, back into the fray now to try to get tickets! Eeek! :D

    Hopefully see you there ;)

  17. sean smith Says:

Gonna be hard to get. I'd sell a child for a ticket. If anyone is in the market or knows someone...
Hey Frank, you get through those wild years alright?
