Many will agree that the rampant drug use and abuse is one of the major causes of the deterioration of today’s society. Crime rates are up and the number of members of the youth of today that is under the influence of narcotics is increasing at a fast rate. That being said, it has become necessary for both government institutions and private organizations to do something about this growing problem before it gets out of hand. Thankfully, there are quite a few drug rehab programs available wherein one can check their loved ones in who have been addicted to drugs. One particular kind of program that is gaining popularity are non 12 step rehab programs because of their unorthodox approach that veers away from the more traditional methods. One big difference of non 12 step programs over traditional rehabs is their focus on using one-on-one sessions that treat the underlying causes of an individual’s problems instead of group sessions with traditional programs that tend to gloss over them. This helps the patient open further, providing a better opportunity for the psychiatrist to attack the main cause of the addiction and correct it accordingly.

Another difference that makes non 12 step programs better than traditional programs is the fact that it has no specific timetable to follow. In short, long-term non 12 step rehabs will not cease until the patient is completely rehabilitated from any dependence on the substance. That way, the risk of patients relapsing is greatly minimized, thus making these programs much more effective compared to more traditional approaches.
